We were commissioned by Brighton & Hove Golf Club to reposition their iconic 6th tee — affectionately known as the “Drop Hole.”
This striking par 3 sits approximately 100ft above the green, demanding precision and a keen sense of distance from players. However, the original tee position did not provide a clear line of sight to the green below, creating a potential safety risk for golfers who may still have been putting out.
We provided earthworks and landscaping services with our excavators to carefully construct the tee to a new position that offers clear visibility of the green and surrounding area, ensuring both improved safety and an enhanced playing experience.
To further improve sightlines, we undertook extensive scrub clearance on the steep hillside between the tee and the green. Using our forestry mulcher and robotic flail machine, we efficiently cleared dense vegetation while working safely on challenging terrain. The cleared area will now be allowed to naturally rewild, supported by wildflower seeding to encourage bees, butterflies, and other pollinators — enhancing both biodiversity and the visual appeal of the hole.
The project was completed within the required timeframe, ready for members and visitors to once again enjoy the unique challenge of this spectacular hole.
